General
Impressions
General Impressions: Inn at Anasazi, A Rosewood Resort

Artists and tourists love Santa Fe. This New Mexican town has long attracted artistic types, many of whom are drawn to its creative spirit and unique culture. Georgia O’Keefe came here for the famous natural light and never left. Today, Santa Fe is a mix of funky artists, new-age types, and soul searchers who relish the laid-back lifestyle and rich heritage. Inn of the Anasazi captures the essence of Santa Fe. This 57-room hotel, just off the city’s plaza, is a true gem. Its small scale makes it feel like an intimate bed and breakfast, but its heart is big and its services plentiful. Owned and managed by Rosewood Resorts, the hotel treats its guests to concierge and valet service, as well as in-room spa treatments.

Once you step inside this one-of-a-kind inn, you’ll find a place that carefully preserves and cherishes its Native American legacy. From its rough-hewn beamed ceilings and kiva fireplace to its sandstone walls and Native American rugs, the interiors reflect the region’s history. The guest rooms echo the public spaces’ dedication to history while providing modern luxuries. The hotel’s respect for its surroundings continues to its restaurant, where taste buds are tantalized with innovative and flavorful Southwestern cuisine. A business center and library, stocked with books on Southwestern art and culture, are also provided for guests’ use.

The hotel’s location near Santa Fe’s shopping, dining, and attractions makes it a prime location for tourists visiting the area. Though Santa Fe is more often selected as a vacation destination, rather than a business hub, there are business travelers who stay at the hotel, and it’s well prepared for their visit. Still, the Inn of the Anasazi is perfect for romantic getaways or adults who want to get away from it all.

The inn’s quiet pace and lack of family-focused amenities do not make it an obvious choice for families, though the property does provide babysitting and childcare services upon request, and it does welcome travelers with children. The hotel tends to be populated by adults, however, so some visitors with young kids in tow may feel slightly out of place.

(+) Inn provides sense of place without forsaking modern amenities
(-) Perhaps not the best choice for families, though the inn certainly welcomes them

Guest Rooms: Inn at Anasazi, A Rosewood Resort

The hotel has 57 guest rooms, decorated with Native American artwork, rugs, and fabrics, the rooms are a showpiece of Southwestern design. Hand-crafted furnishings, beamed ceilings, kiva fireplaces, and four-poster beds add to the local character. The accommodations are comfortable and charming, and beg guests to linger just a little bit longer. While the interiors share a sense of history, the rooms are fitted with modern technology. After settling in to an overstuffed chair in front of a cozy, flickering fire, it’s unlikely that you’ll even want to connect with the “real world,” but the hotel does provide wireless Internet service in all rooms, just in case. Bathrooms are stocked with organic toiletries, in keeping with Santa Fe’s earth-conscious spirit. The overall ambience is relaxing and inspiring, and the rooms would be the perfect place to finish the great American novel or rekindle a love affair.

Facilities
& Activities
Facilities & Activities: Inn at Anasazi, A Rosewood Resort

Travelers who need limitless on-site entertainment aren’t well suited here, but for those who like to live with a feeling of the true flavor of a destination, the Inn of the Anasazi is the perfect place. The hotel doesn’t dazzle guests with its state-of-the-art fitness center or award-winning spa, but this property does invite guests to relax and unwind with in-room spa and aromatherapy treatments, and fitness-minded guests may request in-room exercise equipment.

The hotel’s library is packed with books covering Southwestern art and culture, and its comfortable chairs and relaxing setting make it a nice spot to read, or simply while away an afternoon.

Of course, one of the best reasons to stay at the Inn of the Anasazi is its location. It’s just steps from the heart and soul of Santa Fe -- its thriving plaza. Years ago, the plaza was home to bullfights and gunfights, but today, travelers will find a wonderful collection of cafés, art galleries (more than 200), and boutiques, many peddling Southwestern apparel, jewelry, and accessories.

There’s more to Santa Fe than shopping, though, and the plaza area has five museums, including the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, which is not to be missed. Two other museums include the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of the Institute of American Indian Arts. Santa Fe’s love affair with the arts continues at its many top restaurants, where the culinary arts are celebrated each night. Culture abounds in this creative city throughout the year, but the summer is when it really heats up, with the Santa Fe Opera and the Chamber Music Festival luring culture vultures.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to keep them busy, too. Biking is a popular way to explore the surrounding area, and skiing at world-famous Taos is less than two hours away.

Fans of the open road will want to make a side trip along New Mexico’s stretch of Route 66, where the neon signs and old-fashioned stops of this legendary strip can still be experienced. If you’ve exhausted all there is to see in Santa Fe, Albuquerque is only an hour away.

(+) In-room spa, in-room workout equipment and on-site library with overstuffed chairs adds to the cozy atmosphere
