Our country’s national memorials are primarily commemorative and may be dedicated to a few dozen up to millions. Memorials such as the World War II Memorial, honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. Much like the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor, national memorial sites, structures, and grounds are sacred and deserving of the utmost respect. Many national memorials feature tours, educational materials, films, exhibits, and in some cases, souvenirs, so visitors can leave with a better understanding of and/or a piece of our country’s history.
