Brothers Bruce and Eric Bromberg opened Blue Ribbon on a quiet block in SoHo years ago, and it is as packed today as it was on day one. The tiny, low-lit bistro oozes fabulousness (models, moguls, and musicians are regulars) and features an eclectic menu of New York and French staples, like an icy raw bar stocked with oysters, deliriously good fried chicken (served with honey), and a perfect, meaty, and intensely flavored steak tartare garnished with cornichons, onion, egg, and coarse mustard. Blue Ribbon’s notoriety comes from its late-night crowd that inevitably includes superstar chefs unwinding after a night of cooking or a night on the town.
